Greetings everyone!
By the title itself I pretty sure
everyone will acknowledge it as a Japanese movie. You guys are right. Geisha is
not a courtesan (sorry for the harsh word) as commonly known. Geisha as defined
by Google as female Japanese entertainers who act as hostesses and whose skills
include performing various Japanese arts such as classical music, dance, game
and conversation, mainly to entertain male customers.
Refers from the synopsis from Imdb,
it tells about a life of a nine-year-old named Chiyo from a fishing village is
sold to a geisha house in Kyoto's Gion district and subjected to cruel
treatment from the owners and the head geisha Hatsumomo. Her stunning beauty
attracts the vindictive jealousy of Hatsumomo, until she is rescued by and
taken under the wing of Hatsumomo's bitter rival, Mameha. Under Mameha's
mentorship, Chiyo becomes the geisha named Sayuri, trained in all the artistic
and social skills a geisha must master in order to survive in her society. As a
renowned geisha she enters a society of wealth, privilege, and political
intrigue. As World War II looms Japan and the geisha's world are forever
changed by the onslaught of history.
From my own personal view, this
movie really interesting as it shows the various Japanese cultures that barely
shown on telly. This movie also an adaptation from the famous novel written by
Arthur Golden. More interesting, Mameha portrayed by a famous Malaysian
celebrity, Michelle Yeoh.
I love how the struggle Chiyo have
been through along her living in the house. Gong Li as Hatsumomo again slayed
the character. How rebellious, greedy, and loud she was. I was angry and
dissatisfied with what her done towards Chiyo.
The love story between Chiyo and
the chairman is so beautiful and outstanding. She kept her feelings towards the
chairman for years even she got tested to be with Nobu as it is part of the
chairman’s plan himself. It is true as everyone said good things take times. Years
and years gone, finally they were together.
Personally I kept repeated the
movie so many times just to see how smooth their love’s going. It is
well-adapted from the book.
In a nutshell, the movie was
fantastic and amazing.
Bye!
